Price of Eternal Beauty

“Pretties” by Scott Westerfield is the sequel to the book “Uglies”. In this book Tally is now a pretty. This means she has had the surgery that makes her perfectly beautiful even though she doesn’t want it. Her mind is also changed by the surgery but she doesn’t know. Now she has the clothes, the parties, and all the friends she can ever hope for. One day when she is about to be voted into the biggest and best clique in the city, she has a strange visitor, an ugly visitor.
Uglies aren’t allowed in New Pretty Town. This person isn’t allowed in this perfect town. The river that separates the pretties and the uglies into their own towns isn’t supposed to be crossed. He isn’t allowed into the town. He is from the wild. Tally has forgotten about her time in the smoke where she once knew the visitor, and was there with him when it was destroyed. Because of this visit, she is brought back into the terrible cruel pretty world of special circumstances who are the police of her city. Now she is once again forced to a different side of the law than her best friend as she chooses between her new life of glamour or a life of freedom where she can make her own decisions with her ugly mind.
I recommend this book like my review of the first book to people who like technology action and suspense. “The Price of Beauty

Tyler Deau

I read the book “Uglies” by Scott Westerfield. It is set in a futuristic world where you can get anything you want by asking for it and it comes out of a wall. The mode of transportation is hover cars and the most important thing about turning 16 isn’t your driver’s license, you turn stunningly beautiful for life.

The main character is Tally and she is a couple months away from her 16th birthday and her friend Peris is going to get his surgery to turn pretty. Tally has to wait for her 16th birthday so she finds a new friend, and her name is Shay. The two girls find out they have the same birthday and they become very good friends. Shay teaches Tally to hover board and they sneak out to the ruins.

The day before their birthday comes, Shay comes to Tally and tells her that she is leaving for a place called the Smoke. In the Smoke they live in the wilderness and they don’t have the operation to turn people pretty. Tally does not want to go but when Tally goes to turn pretty she goes through complications. She has to go to the Smoke and activate a tracker and be a spy for Special Circumstances. Tally finds out that being pretty isn’t all the glamorous life that it sounds like it is and is a cover of a very big secret.

This book is good for anyone who likes action suspense and set in a futuristic utopia.

Scorpions on the loose

Tyler Deau

I chose The House Of The Scorpion by Nancy Farmer because I thought that it would be about scorpions I was wrong. The book is in a futuristic world set in between the border of Mexico, now called Aztlan, and the United States. It is a place where the main export is opium and the workers are slaves with a chip in their heads where they do not do anything but what they are ordered to.

These slaves are called eejits which are programmed to do only what they are told, and they will die of thirst or exhaustion if they are not told to drink or rest. Eejits are made when the police force called the Farm Patrol capture people running across the border and then put a chip in their brains.

Matt, the main character of the story is a clone of El Patron, which is the person in control of the opium fields. In these farms Matt is considered an animal because he is a clone, not a human. Clones are created when they are cut from the animal they are bred from. their minds are supposed to be destroyed but El Patron does not destroy Matt’s mind because he is powerful enough to disobey the law. Humans are born from a human, which is the normal way to give birth. Matt is ignored or tormented because of the fact.

he is not alone though he has a few friends. he has Celia, Tam Lin, and Maria. through all this he learns what it means to be a clone. He learns the life of a clone dealing with hover cars, running away, taking down an evil dictator, and finding his history

This is recommended for anyone who likes action adventure and a good story with technology. It helps you recognize the importance of friends and being with people that you can trust and who will help you and what it means to truly be a human

Politics on the Farm

Tyler Deau

I read the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. Orwell also wrote the famous book 1984 these two books deal with the government. Animal Farm deals specifically with communism. In animal farm the animals get fed up with how the humans were treating them. A highly regarded and respected pig Old Major tells them that they needed to remove man from the farm and they could live in prosperity. He had predicts a rebellion of animals with this rebellion they want more rations and to be able to live for themselves. The work they do also they want to go to them and they wanted it to be for them only. Humans seem to be in their way and only a nuisance.

When they go through with the rebellion other problems arise, such as who will lead, what rules are going to be in place and others. The pigs who are the smartest and can remember more than the other animals begin to follow the pigs and for awhile they live life on as normal. When the two main pigs, Snowball and Napoleon begin to have conflicting interests, the animals side with Snowball.  Then Napoleon takes a litter of dogs and uses them to make him the leader of animal farm. He then breaks down the seven commandments of animal farm and changes them and lowers rations for other animals and starts to disobey the commandments and starts to become more like the humans.

I recommend this book it has a lot of interesting things that happen in it and it does not slow down. It keeps you interested and makes you want to know what happens more. Anyone who likes talking animals or books that involve rebellion or politics or even a good story, this is a good book for you.

Jail time Blues

Tyler Deau

The novel Monster by Walter Dean Myers is written as a movie script. The screenplay is about the court case that Steve Harmon is in. Monster shows the case as Steve goes through the emotions of being accused of being a monster. The book leads you through his fears and concerns as he and his attorney try to prove his innocence to a jury that already think he is just a black kid about to go to jail for murder.

Steve Harmon is writing the screenplay because he was involved with a friend that participated in a robbery of a drugstore that ended badly. The owner of the drugstore tries to prevent the robbery and he ends up getting killed in the process. This murder and robbery then leads detectives to the people on trial which is Steve Harmon and James King. The two boys are then tried for a sentence of 25 to life without parole.

I recommend this book for anyone who likes suspense, drama, and a mystery. This book pulls you in and shows how bad a place like jail can be. Walter Dean Myers gives a good representation of what the consequences can be for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
